Achieve Your Best Life: Five Key Strategies for Success and Happiness

We spin our wheels in a mediocre station of our life not because its our destiny, but because we’ve made it so. When we think we’ll finally get beyond the ‘just okay’ version of ourselves only when this happens or that happens, we give all our power to outside forces and surrender the possibilities of an exceptional life to the chance that it might happen.

To pursue a greater life and not get in your own way, do these five things:

  • Define your operating principles. Compile a list of daily practices that align with your values and commit to living by them consistently. Consider how your actions today will shape the person you aspire to be in ten years. As Zig Ziglar once said, “If you aim at nothing, you’ll hit it every time.”
  • Commit to habits that fuel you, and if you want to replace bad habits with good ones, prepare in advance for situations where you’re likely to be triggered, setting yourself up for success.

An exceptional life does not just happen. An exceptional life is something that takes work. Intentional work. Disciplined work.

  • Find the leverage to live no other way. Cultivate a compelling “why” that propels you towards your desired future. Understand the consequences of not pursuing your goals to create the urgency needed for significant transformation today.
  • Be deliberate in what you focus on. For instance, if you spend more than three hours each night watching TV, you’re prioritizing television over activities that could contribute to your personal development. Choosing to exercise daily reflects a commitment to a healthy lifestyle over a sedentary one. Consider your priorities: while you may enjoy pizza and breadsticks, what do you value more—maintaining good health and having the energy to actively engage with your children?
  • Surround yourself with relationships that serve you. Surround yourself with individuals who uplift and support your aspirations. Remember, you are influenced by the five people you spend the most time with. Envision a hopeful future that excites you, then deliberately choose companions who align with your vision.

If you are the smartest person in your circle of five friends, you needa new circle. If you are the most driven person in your circle you need a new circle. If you’re the healthiest, happient , in the strongest relationship, more positive … You. Need. A. New. Circle.
