Problems are like washing machine

This life does not seem to be fair to anyone. Each of us has our own share of issues and problems we need to deal with.

Some problems are calamities coming from God directly, like floods, earthquakes, sickness, the death of a loved one, or getting into an accident. These are the things we have no control over or very little control over. Instead of getting angry at what happened and submitting to a feeling of self-pity, which does nothing for us, look at what you still have and be grateful. Practising gratitude is hard, but with persistence, it can become our habit. Also, these problems teach us to prepare in advance for next time.

Secondly, some problems are outcome of our own actions and the will of God, like not getting a job, bad grades, relationship problems, etc. These are the problems that help us reflect and change the course of our action to avoid being in the same problematic territory again. e.g., work on what’s hot in job market, study hard, set clear boundaries, and add respect as the main ingredient in the relationship.

Lastly, some problems are not real problems but are perceived problems. They are the problems that we make up in our minds by negative thinking, assumptions, keeping grudges, and not forgiving others mistakes, even though we know that we all make mistakes. Forgiveness is the most important key to happiness. Lots of our issues can be resolved if we start forgiving others and train our minds to think positively.

Don’t lose hope when engulfed by problems; thank God for all the blessings you still have and collect the pearls of learning from each problem you face. When you feel that your problems have overwhelmed you, remind yourself of your bigger goal and keep marching towards it. Also remember that God has helped you reach where you are now, so he will take you out of the problems too and help you move forward. Never lose hope!

Also, keep the circle of control in mind. If it is not in your control, don’t spend energy on it, forgive, accept, and move on. If it’s in your control, take action, as worrying only wastes time and energy.
